Why We Switched From Sketch To Figma

When it comes to design software, there are a few options out there that are widely considered to be the best of the best. For years, Sketch has been considered one of those top-tier design tools — but lately, Figma has been giving Sketch a run for its money.

As a UX & UI designer, I’ve used Sketch for years and have always been happy with it. But when I was introduced to Figma earlier last year, I was immediately impressed by its features and overall user experience. After using Figma for a while now, I can say without a doubt that it’s my new go-to design tool.

Here are just a few of the reasons why I switched from Sketch to Figma:

Figma is more collaborative

One of the best things about Figma is that it’s built for collaboration from the ground up. With Sketch, I was always having to export my designs as PDFs or images in order to share them with teammates — which was a huge pain.

With Figma, I can simply share a link to my design file and anyone on my team can view it and leave comments directly within the file. This makes it super easy to get feedback on designs and makes the whole design process a lot more collaborative.

Figma has better version control

Another big selling point of Figma for me is that it has much better version control than Sketch. With Sketch, if I wanted to go back and make changes to a previous version of my design, I would have to export it as a new file.

But with Figma, I can simply revert to a previous version of my design with just a few clicks. This is an insanely helpful feature that has saved me a ton of time (and headaches).

Figma is platform independent

Figma is a great tool for web designers because it is platform-independent and built fully on the web. This means that you can use Figma on any operating system, including Windows, Mac, and Linux. Plus, all your design files are stored in the cloud, so you can access them from anywhere. And because Figma is built on the web, it is constantly updated with new features and improvements.

Figma is more affordable

Last but not least, Figma is also more affordable than Sketch. For starters, Figma has a free tier that allows you to use all of the features for personal projects. And even if you decide to upgrade to a paid plan, it’s still cheaper than Sketch — $12/month for Figma vs $99/year for Sketch.

Overall, I’m really happy with my switch from Sketch to Figma. If you’re looking for a new design tool, I highly recommend giving Figma a try — I think you’ll be just as impressed as I was.
